Beef-soup-sl-1831948-l It's right about now each year when I start to yearn for warmer weather.

Though we haven't seen a lift in temperatures around the Southern Living offices, we have started to see glimpses of the sun more often. I often have a craving for comfort foods right before the weather warms up and things get hot. Soon I'll crave tomatoes and watermelon straight from the farmer's market, but for now, give me a hearty soup or pot roast.

The one photo'd here was published in our September 2008 issue, and is one I make often. It's easily modified to fit your family's tastes, and the leftovers make yummy sandwiches the next day.Or, try the Chicken Gumbo from our February 2010 issue.

What do you find yourself making around this time of year?

I've got a favorite which works in hot weather too -- angel hair pasta with fresh mushroom and vegetable ribbon sauce, loaded up with fontinella cheese. Although pot roast is good, too.
