Cake

I went to visit my mother, Clementa "Ment" Florio, when I was in Charleston.  At 96, she still loves to cook, and was just pulling a pound cake out of the oven when I arrived.  She tries different cake recipes she finds, but my sister has convinced her she's found a really good recipe and should stick with it, so she has. . .for now.  I don't have a copy of her recipe, but, here's one of our staff'favorites.   It's perfect for the holidays or anytime.  You can bake it now, wrap it tightly in foil, put it in a freezer bag, and it will keep for several months.

I am looking for a cake in an old Christmas issue of southern living either Nov.or Dec. The year is from 2002, 2003, 2004 or 2005.
The cake was a torte and had angel cookies and ribbons cecorating the outside. It was absolutely the best cake ever and I lost my recipe. Does anyone know about it?

HI, Donna. I think that was our cover cake from Dec. 1997 (time flies, doesn't it?). It's Chocolate Truffle Angel Cake, on page 283 of our Annual Recipes Book. I can't find it on myrecipes.com, so if you need a copy, let me know, and we can fax it to you.

Hi Donna,
this is a perfect idea for the holidays, when you have family over for the week and no time to cook...

I'm looking for and old Christmas issue of Southern Living Mag with a pound cake on the cover. The cake has rosemary and cranberry garnishing with white frosting. My kid's want me to make this cake for Christmas. Thanks for your help.

Hi, Rose. That's the Cream Cheese Bourbon Pecan Pound Cake that ran in December 2004. Here's the link to the recipe on myrecipes.com.

I read an article by you titled "Ties that bind: Barbados, Charleston share a common history". I'm a Floridian, but my parents are Barbadian. My wife and I are thinking of visiting Charleston. Do you have suggestions on how I could explore the Bajan influence there?
