If you've never visited Blowing Rock, NC for the Annual Blue Ridge Wine & Food Festival then you are missing out on a culinary and cultural experience.  Get ready for a four day event full of wine seminars, tastings, music concert, shopping, and much more. Blowingrock

The trip should take about 7 1/2 hours from Birmingham, Alabama, but we had a little hiccup with the directions. Our hiccup added another hour to our journey. We had to go up a very steep, winding road for 18 long miles.  The view was beautiful, but if you're afraid of heights, well you get my drift.  My wonderful husband pictured here did all of the drivingHe had to tease me by taking some of the curves a little fast. Definitely, not funny. We did however invest in a GPS system for our drive back.  Worth every penny.

Our reservations were with Bob Timberlake Inn at Chetola Resorts. This is a beautiful property that includes condos, a lodge, and restaurant. The staff at Bob Timberlake were top quality and I would recommend this spot as a place to stay. Special shout out to Marcia Greene, Director of Marketing with the resort. Go to www.chetola.com and check out the amenities.

The Winemaker's Dinner presented by Childress Vineyards & The Manor House Restaurant at Chetola Resort was first-class all the way.  To tempt your taste buds I'll give you a sampling of what was offered, Grilled Apricot Salsa Flatbread paired with Childress Victory Cuvee; Pancetta Stuffed Jumbo Prawn paired with Childress Trio; Sage Seared Duck Breast with Hazelnut Encrusted Goat Cheese Cake paired with 2006 Reserve Merlot.  Chef Michael Barbato outdid himself with the menu.  Everyone at our table raved over the food and what a sensational job he did with the pairings.  Here's a photo of Chef Barbato, me, and Susan Dosier, Media Specialist for North Carolina Tourism after the event.  Chef Barbato received a standing ovation from the dinner guests.

There's too much to write about in one blog.  So check back in the coming weeks for more information, photos, and fun facts from my wonderful journey to the North Carolina mountains. Hint: You're not going to believe who I met unexpectedly while in Blowing Rock. We're already planning next year's trip and taking our daughters next time.
